MEMENTO WALTZ JOIN THE PROGPOWER EUROPE BILL 30th September to 2nd October 2011

ProgPower Europe have announced another band for the festival and this time it's MEMENTO WALTZ from Italy who will play on the Sunday.

This is a relatively new band and they are influenced by the likes of King Crimson, Watchtower, Cynic and Spiral Architect. They offer psychedelic melodies, dark atmospheres and layered rhythms.

The festival now has 11 acts named with just 4 more to follow - there's a real mix with some established acts, some bands doing the festival circuit and a couple of fairly unknown bands. The last acts are being finalised just now but are rumoured to be likely to cause a sell out - as if REDEMPTION and MEKONG DELTA weren't enough!

A check of the new website http://progpower.eu/ will show you links to loads of accommodation as well as a guide to travelling to Baarlo. It's really easy and today nowhere is really that far. The music speaks for itself.

Booked so far - Barstool Philosophers, Schizoid Lloyd, Kingcrow, Redemption, Seventh Wonder, In Mourning, Sole Remedy, Sky Architect, Mekong Delta, White Walls, Memento Waltz - four more to be named

UŽ JSME DOMA: The Sounds of Freedom at ProgDay 2011!

"UŽ JSME DOMA (pronounced "Oozh Smeh Dough-Ma") seemed to appear out of nowhere in the early 1990s, but it was a little more complicated than that.  When the group came together in the small border town of Teplice in Czechoslovakia in 1985, rock was freedom and freedom was illegal.  Via Western radio and smuggled tapes, however, the band came into contact with punk rock as well as more avant-garde bands.  It wasn't until the fall of the Communist government that they were able to record and tour.  The group has won a strong following with their great releases and their constant, high energy tours.  25 years after their founding, their music combines the energy of punk rock - their original inspiration - while ignoring genre walls and adding more complex structures taken from avant-garde and avant-progressive bands and even from folk music of their native land.  They are living, fire-breathing, alternative rock legends.  They are a singular, powerful group whose shows win them instant fans for life and whose musical voice is the voice of joy and freedom."
- Steve Feigenbaum, Cuneiform Records

Along with PLASTIC PEOPLE OF THE UNIVERSE, UŽ JSME DOMA are considered to be the pre-eminent ambassadors of Central European rock.  ProgDay is very honored to bring the legendary band to Storybook Farm. (http://www.progday.net/Bands-UzJsmeDoma.html)

UŽ JSME DOMA joins PANZERBALLETT (Germany), QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

The Red Masque, Moraine & K2 (feat. Ryo from Spocks Beard) at The Fire in Philadelphia

Burning Down The House!
Ironically, after The Red Masque's last gig was cancelled due to a fire, our next gig is at The Fire in Philadelphia, along with Moraine and K2.

MORAINE
Moraine is an omnivorous Seattle-based instrumental quintet made up of guitarist Dennis Rea, violinist Alicia DeJoie, woodwind player James DeJoie, bassist Kevin Millard, and drummer Stephen Cavit. With its several writers and full complement of ace instrumentalists arrayed in striking combination, Moraine achieves a unique sound while drawing on forms ranging from art rock to Chinese folk music to plugged-in power jazz and more. Moraine has been enthusiastically received by audiences ranging from jazz aficionados to progressive rock devotees to metalheads. The band's 2009 release on NYC-based MoonJune Records, manifest deNsity, has received more than 100 glowing reviews in 30 countries, and its set at NEARfest 2010 was considered by many to be a highlight of the festival.
THE RED MASQUE
Founded in February 2001 by bassist/keyboardist Brandon Ross and vocalist Lynnette Shelley, the Red Masque went through several lineup changes over the years, but its intent and integrity has always remained the same. The band's goal was, and is, to create original music that pushes the envelope of the listener's expectations. With such influences as Magma, King Crimson, Hawkwind, Gong, Pink Floyd, Bauhaus, Art Bears, and Van Der Graaf Generator, The Red Masque's compositions are as intense as they are unique.
One of the group's first concerts was at the Prelude to the North East Art Rock Festival (NEARFest) in 2001. Other notable shows include the 2005 Rogue Independent Music Festival in Atlanta, the 2001 World Con Science Fiction Convention, the New Jersey proghouse series, Orion Studios in Baltimore; the Philadelphia Landing Pad Space Rock Festival; and The Gate to Moonbase Alpha concert series at the Rotunda in Philadelphia. The Red Masque also organized and performed in the 2002 and 2003 Philadelphia Underground Music and Culture Festival. The Red Masque have also opened up for notable performers and musicians such as Chris Cutler (Henry Cow, Art Bears), The Muffins, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Present. They have also performed on stage with such well-regarded drummers and percussionists as David Kerman (5UUs, Present, Thinking Plague) and Paul Sears (The Muffins, Thee Maximalists).
Steadily growing an audience within the underground progressive and psychedelic music communities for their uncompromising and intense style of music, The Red Masque have released to date one EP ("Death of the Red Masque" in 2001), and three albums ("Victoria and the Haruspex" in 2002, "Feathers for Flesh" in 2004, and "Fossil Eyes" in 2008), as well as one single (2003). "Feathers for Flesh" was released through the Big Balloon Music label out of Washington state and garnered critical reviews in the press, including Wire Magazine, Harmonie Magazine, Progresiste Magazine, iO Pages, Colussus Magazine, Tarkus Magazine, Progression Magazine, Expose Magazine, the Philadelphia City Paper, Metro Philadelphia, and various online newsletters, blogs, and review sites. Interviews in various progressive music media also followed, including Progression Magazine and Expose Magazine.
K2
K2 began quite by accident in May of 2001 when bassist Ken Jaquess asked drummer Doug Sanborn to play on some new music he was working on. Having no idea if anything would come of these sessions, they set out to record a bold and daring project that would soon take on a life all its own. After only 4 rehearsals and 5 hours of recording, Ken and Doug had laid the foundation for an incredible epic album of high musicianship, complex compositions and haunting themes. What happened next was completely unexpected. Over the next 4 years, fellow musicians Allan Holdsworth, Ryo Okumoto, Shaun Guerin, Yvette Devereaux & John Miner added layer upon layer of unique, signature sounds that resulted in K2's first album "Book of the Dead". Critically acclaimed around the world, K2 went on to perform BOTD live with a new line-up consisting of Ken and Doug, Ryo Okumoto (keyboards), Karl Johnson (guitar), and Josh Gleason (vocals). In 2006, K2 filmed their first gig, which was released on their 2008 concert DVD, "K2 Live in Hollywood". In 2007, this lineup went back to the drawing board to create what would become their long overdue 2nd release, "Black Garden". The new K2 album to be released September 21st, 2010 on Magna Carta Records, showcases this modern rock quintet in an entirely new setting. With a central theme of Oceania, K2 explores the hidden depths of this mysterious region and take the listener on a dark, sonic journey to places rarely visited, and offers a glimpse of a people unlike any other on earth.

ALBERTO RIGONI TO RELEASE "REBIRTH" - April 21, 2011

Born in Montebelluna (Treviso, Italy) in 1981, bass player ALBERTO RIGONI founded a well-known progressive-metal cover band, in 1998 called "Ascra", with drummer Enrico Buttol, performing mainly songs by Dream Theater. In 2003 he joined the emerging band Twinspirits (progressive rock metal), led by Daniele Liverani (Genius Rock Opera, Khymera, ex-Empty Tremor). The band's debut album "The Music That Will Heal The World" was released worldwide in 2007 by Finnish label Lion Music and received remarkable feedback. Besides Twinspirits" RIGONI composed his first solo album entitled "Something Different", released by Lion Music on February 15th 2008 with worldwide distribution. At the same time Alberto shot a video of his hit song "BASSex" (working with Italian company "Solingo Visual Arts") directed by Elia Cristofoli. The video was broadcast on some television networks such as RockTV.

2009 saw the release of the second Twinspirits album "The Forbidden City" on Lion Music.  During this time period RIGONI also played bass as special guest on some tracks of Giani Rojatti's solo guitar album "Dolcetti Metal Beat" and scored some gear endorsements with great companies such as Aguilar Amplification, HipShot amongst others.

The following year RIGONI began work on what was to become "Rebirth".  It was also at this time that he became involved with the band Mistheria and played bass on their album "Dragonfire".  The all-star line-up of Mistheria included: John West, Mark Boals, Rob Rock, Titta Tani, Lance King on vocals, George Bellas, Roger Staffelbach, Emir Hot, Neil Zaza on guitars, ALBERTO RIGONI on bass and on the drums  John Macaluso.

In 2011, Twinspirits released their third album "Legacy".  It was at this time that ALBERTO signed with Nightmare Records. He is scheduled to release his sophomore solo album "Rebirth" on May 23rd, 2011.  It was originally scheduled for May 24th, but pop queen Lady Gaga is putting out her new album that Monday May 23rd, so all Sony/Red and affiliated label releases will be coming out that day "Rebirth" shows an extreme variety of tunes, some with voice and some instrumental. It's a union of experimental research blended with a solid backbone of melody. Music lovers around the world will want to witness his elegant simplicity to bring the bass instrument to the forefront without losing the rhythm and foundation of the music.

ALBERTO successfully combines rock-prog fusion with hard-rock ambience, creating a blend that suggests a poetic mix that is free from any defined genre yet remains memorable an even catchy.

"Rebirth" features contributions from a number of well-known musicians, including drummers Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Krimson) John Macaluso (Ark, TNT, Yngwie Malmsteen), bassists Michael Manring and Yves Carbonne, Swedish singer Jonas Erixon (Alicate), guitarist Tommy Ermolli (Twinspirits) and Simone Mularoni (DGM, Empyrios), keyboard players Federico Solazzo (Alexia), Andrea Pavanello (Centrica), Filippo Lui and Emanuele Casali (DGM, Astra).

Favored Nations - Steve Vai "Bodhi Tree" VaiTunes

It's not uncommon for a musician to record more work than they release. In my case I have a digital ocean of snippets in various degrees of completion. Some are leftovers from assorted project recording sessions, projects that were never completed, sound check jams, demo snippets, etc. There are enough lonely unreleased notes in my world to fill an ''infinity shelf.'' VaiTunes are tracks that are culled from this melodic abyss, brushed off, sometimes severely hosed down, and released as digital singles.

These tracks may be specific to a particular project that has never had the chance to be a completed big picture, but now, with the advent of all this digital technology and distribution, it's possible to release a variety of tracks from a potential project without having to complete the whole project itself. Eventually, if there are enough tracks completed that fall into a precise endeavor, perhaps they will be compiled and released as a cohesive CD. In any event, it's a good way to release a constant stream of music.

Although the plan is to continue to create whole, full-bodied CD releases, VaiTunes can serve as temporary pacifiers for some delectable melodies to be sucked through the ears and absorbed into the soul.

About the Song ''Bodhi Tree'' by Steve Vai

Ah yes, that ol' Lydian thing again...

Every now and then, I get a new piece of studio gear, plug my guitar through it, and see what I can conjure up. One day, I built this patch using an Eventide H300 Harmonizer. After playing through the sound for 10 seconds or so, I realized I should document what was flowing through my fingers and out of the amp. It was easy and enjoyable to just play simple stuff and have this wonderful flurry of shimmery overtones emanate from each note.

I quickly built a little percussion track and just went for it. I wasn't sure what I was going to play, but I knew it was all going to work. You just get that feeling, and you know you gotta act quickly.

I was so looking forward to what the next few minutes were going to bring. I buried my head in the sound and slipped into a state of melodic meditation. I literally thought I played only for a few minutes, but it was more than nine! I thought that if I ever wanted to release this track, it would have to be edited.

But the other day when looking for a VaiTune's selection, I came across this track and fell back in love with it. The track is close to 20 years old, and I had totally forgotten about it. I had listened back to it only once after I recorded it.

Every time I tried to edit the track for this release, I felt as though I was cutting out a piece of its soul. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to shorten it, even though it was more than nine minutes long. What's retained here is the stream of consciousness I had at the time I recorded it, and this is how I thought it should stay. I also thought that anyone who's interested in this kind of track wouldn't mind its length.

Pendragon to release their first Blu-Ray in late 2011!

The legendary British band Pendragon are about to finish the Polish leg of European tour promoting their brand new album "Passion". The final gig will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 20th April at Teatr Śląski in Katowice (Poland).

The concert will be recorded and released in late 2011 as a DVD and, for the first time in their career, as a Blu-Ray.

As Nick Barrett said in one of the interviews for Polish media: "We'll be playing probably about 30 minutes of the new album on the tour, some of the more rocky stuff, which is good live, and something that is more typical Pendragon from the new album too, it's one of the longer songs. We've tried to do material that we haven't played very much before, particularly in Poland, and for the DVD we've changed the set drastically so that people don't buy the new DVD and it's just got the same songs as the last one."

Pendragon's line-up:

Nick Barrett - guitars, vocals
Peter Gee - bass
Clive Nolan - keyboards
Scott Higham – drums

Pendragon's ninth studio album "Passion" was released on April, 11th.

NeraNature - listen to Garbage's cover

A cover of Garbage's "World Is Not Enough" is now available for streaming on NeraNature's Myspace profile. The track promotes the debut album of Nera, the vocalist of the Polish metal band Darzamat. Her new material entitled "Foresting Wounds" will be released under the moniker NeraNature by Metal Mind Productions on the 9th of May in Europe and on 12th July in USA (via MVD).

Nera explains why she decided to record this track for her debut album: "It's a song that intrigues with its ambiguity. The band managed to combine energy with a sense of frailty, as what we have here is sensuality accompanied by aggressive lyrics. I love such complex songs and that's why I  decided to perform one of them. I hope that people will find our slightly heavier version to their liking."
NeraNature was founded by Nera in 2009. The project appeared as a space where the air is filled with matters lingering in her head, a bit more intimate, private and sometimes bizarre and freakish. "I've been waiting for a long time for the right place and time to find an outlet for my personal thoughts and beliefs. This is the time and place" – explains Nera. The name of the band is a combination of two words: Nera, the nickname of the vocalist, and Nature, referring to a reflection on a deep connection with the environment. It can also be interpreted as the nature of Nera – a diversity of views reflected in the songs. The feminine character of lyrics imdbued with the feminist outlook on life constitutes one of the most significant elements of the projects, touching upon such issues as man's detachment from nature and running away from himself/herself.

MISHKIN Announce Release Date for EP 'Row Away from the Rocks' and New Video

Since forming in 2005 MISHKIN have toured throughout the UK, recorded a song for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, toured China twice, ran a series of music workshops for children in 20 locations across China, played shows alongside Sepultura, Enter Shikari and Skindred and released a critically acclaimed EP 'State of Mute Fear'.

Now in 2011, the Leeds based progressive metal five-piece will release their second EP, 'Row Away from the Rocks' on June 6th. Produced, mixed and mastered by Justin Hill (SikTh) of WellerHill Productions at Fortress Studios in London and with stunning artwork designed by British cartoonist Ralph Steadman, most famous for his work with Hunter S. Thompson, 'Row Away from the Rocks' presents listeners with four tracks of a heavier, rockier, more soulful sound citing influences as diverse as SikTh, Incubus and Faith No More.

MISHKIN are currently taking part in the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, having already made it to the final 15, the band are now currently sitting high on the Festival Buzz Chart. The band that tops this chart on June 6th will be automatically confirmed to play the Red Bull Bedroom Jam stage at Download, Sonisphere, T In The Park, Underage Festival and Hevy Festival. So the question is – can MISHKIN make June 6th a double celebration with the release of their EP and a win on the RBBJ chart?

Singer Ben Davy comments: "The rest of this year is going to be massively exciting for us! With the new E.P getting its official release in June and our debut animated video hitting peoples screens globally. X Opus - The new album "The Epiphany" available on Magna Carta Records

The Epiphany, the debut CD from the symphonic metal band X Opus, is a celestial blend of enigmatic lyrical threads and layered neoclassical metal.

Tracks such as Terrified, Forsaken On Top of the World, Pharaohs of Lies and In the Heavens" are haunting yet radiant musical vignettes, imbued with the power of spiritual transformation.

While traces of Hendrix, Symphony X and J.S. Bach can be detected throughout the 10-track CD, X Opus has shaped a dense musical landscape pockmarked by major plateaus and minor gullies. The combination of doomy chord changes, bombastic compositional grandness, the flavor of Middle Eastern scales, and lyrical themes, based on the redemptive nature of faith, is enough to send chills up and down your spine.

You always hear about the healing powers of music, says guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and X Opus leader James Williams. The Epiphany CD really sums up many of the trials and tribulations of my life and even my own belief system. Really, it's the record I've waited my life to make."

Williams composed the music and played and/or programmed all of the instruments heard on The Epiphany. Dallas-Fort Worth area singers Brian Dixon and David Crocker provide the operatic and classic metal vibrato. (Think Halford, Dio, Tate and LaBrie.)

It's no accident that the extreme emotional component of this music has moved so many who've heard it. The Epiphany is more than just good headbanging entertainment -- it's a senses-stimulating symphonic metal experience for the ages.

The Epiphany CD took about two years to finish," boasts Williams. "I wrote 25 compositions for the CD and I picked the one that I thought were the most appropriate thematically. I'm really very proud of this entire collection of tunes."

SHEAR - IN SOLITUDE 'Female fronted melodic metal - Release of the Day in Classic Rock Magazine'

Shear is a six piece, Helsinki-based, female fronted Finnish metal act. The members of Shear have played in many familiar metal bands such as AMORAL, OMNIUM GATHERUM, IMPERANON, ELENIUM and CRYSTAL BLAZE. The members also have experience in recording full-length albums and touring in their previous projects.

The current lineup of Shear was finalized in 2008. The members have, however, played together for many years. The guitarists Mikael Grönroos and Lauri Koskenniemi, and keyboardist Lari Sorvo have played together since 2001. Bass player Eerik Purdon joined the group in 2004, and the drummer Juhana Karlsson in 2007. Shear's lineup was finalized in 2008 when vocalist Alexa Leroux joined the band.

Shear's first official release is the four track EP entitled 'In Solitude'. The EP was recorded and mixed at Arcada Studios in the fall of 2009 by guitarist Mikael Grönroos. 'In Solitude' was mastered at the famous Chartmakers studios and released in March of 2010.

The 'In Solitude' EP has received great response from the media. One of UK's biggest rock magazines, Classic Rock Magazine chose the EP as their 'Release of the Day' in April 2010. Finland's biggest printed metal magazine Inferno chose 'In Solitude' as the demo of the month in issue #77 (May 2010). Furthermore, Finland's biggest metal website Imperiumi.net chose the EP as the demo of the Month (August 2010). The band has also been praised for being an energetic live band. The band entered the studios in March 2011 to start recordings of their yet untitled debut album.

Review:

Shear are a new female fronted melodic/power metal/symphonic rock band from Helsinki in Finland. The band are Mikael Gronroos - Guitar, Lari Sorvo - Keyboards, Lauri Koskenniemi - Guitars, Eerik Purdon - Bass and the beautiful Alexa Leroux on Vocals.

'In Solitude' is their new four track EP. It takes a few listens to get into and once the music sinks in you will find a band that sits adequately alongside the likes of Within Temptation, After Forever, Dream Theater and Xandria. They are power metal/melodic and symphonic rock all rolled into one, and my favourite track was the vigorous 'Scorched'. This track has the lot, tremendous crisp guitar work, coated with cool bass and drum kicks. The warm and dynamic vocals from Alexa are wonderful, and she shines on all four tracks, but with 'Scorched' the band broaden their musical charms and if anything this song alone should land them a deal and it makes me speculate why the band are not yet signed, which is criminal.

'Mistakes' is also very good, very technical with lots of knotty performances, again Alexa shines, she sounds like a 'heavier' Robin Beck, the band are so well practised  and passionate with their technique, that each song feels very sincere. The title track is more melodic, this is fun and very catchy with appealing musicianship. 'Trapped In a Shell' offers a more vivid commercial symphonic production, and is very good, a little like Nightwish here coupled with Mattias IA Eklundh style guitar works.

I can hear just how these guys would sound with a label funded production budget to give them that fuller production quality. For now I implore you to check them out, I have a hunch that we will be hearing a lot more from this excellent Finnish band, brilliant. By Nick - TMS

The Band:
Lead Vocals: Alexa Leroux
Guitar: Mikael Grönroos
Guitars: Lauri Koskenniemi
Bass: Eerik Purdon
Keyboards: Lari Sorvo
Drums: Juhana Karlsson

MARATHON - THE REUNION TOUR 2011 // TURN IT OUT LOUD!!!!!

MARATHON  -  THE REUNION TOUR 201

The year 1998:

In this year, the life of one of Holland's greatest prog-rock bands came to an end. Marathon split up. As a thank you to the fans and a closing chapter to the story of Marathon the band released a live-album, containing most of the material of their two albums (The First Run and Norm). Although the recordings date back to 1996, they were released only after the demise of the band. Such a shame. (source DPRP)

The year 2003:

ENorm started in 2003. They released their first album Real Today the same year. One of the songs from this album, 12th Man, was written for a documentary about the Dutch socker team FC Twente when they won the cup final in 2001 and is still sung out loud in the FC Twente stadion during socker games.

Their second album Enonymous was released in May 2005. This was celebrated with two great concerts. The reactions of both fans and critics were more than positive. The presentation of the album was done live by two of the best known Dutch dj's: Coen and Sander from 3fm. The single Answers ended up in the Dutch Top 100. The song German Soldier received national attention on Dutch television.

Over the years, ENorm has built a great reputation as a live band. They have appeared onstage with both national and international artists. A few examples: Sting, Golden Earring, Tower of Power and Van Velzen, Van Dik Hout, Krezip and Ilse de Lange (the latter four being Dutch of course :)). ENorm has also made their appearance on TV, on both regional and national channels as well as on regional and national radio. From 2006-2008 the band organized their own ENorm Festival.

The year 2011:

ENorm = MARATHON……… (ENorm's Marathon Revival)
The band will perform the best songs of the Marathon era on stage and will complete their set with some ENorm tracks along with some covers of their favorite artists such as Saga, Rush, Marillion and Alan Parsons Project.

Dutch club tour is in progress now and dates will be revealed as soon as possible.

Dream The Electric Sleep (DTES)
is a progressive, concept-rock band from Lexington, KY.

Drawing from a variety of influences that include Genesis, Rush, Killing Joke, Neurosis, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, U2, and Black Sabbath, DTES present an abnormally eclectic mix of genres and musicality.

Formed in Winter 2009, guitarist and vocalist Matt Page, guitarist Trevor Willmott, and drummer Joey Waters (then members of the band "Jack") recruited bassist Chris Tackett. Tackett, formerly of the bands Chum (Century Media) and Hyatari (Earache), helped shape a new direction and sound for the band, that would eventually become DTES.

In late 2009, DTES started work on a concept album (two years in the making) that explores the trials and tribulations of an Eastern Kentucky coal miner and his wife.

The result is the band's debut LP, "Lost and Gone Forever" - a genre-bending opus that not only reflects the bands mixed bag of influences, but charters some new territories as well.

First track of DAGMAR's new "folktronica" album project

"Dead of Night", the first track of DAGMAR's new "folktronica" album project -- a collaboration with U.K. producer ROBBIE BRONNIMANN and long-time Dagmar drummer/percussionist DAVID ROZENBLATT -- is now in the can and available for preview on the Dagmar website.  The song starts playing as soon as the website opens.

The new "folktronica" music will provide the foundation for a full multi-media theatrical show called "EXO" that will tell the full story of the guy who can't get out of bed in the morning and the insect goddess who plunges through the ether to rescue him.  Turns out, she's more than just a goddess.

Be ready for the first showcase/workshop productions of EXO in early 2012.  The roughly 90-minute stage show will morph organically from comedy, tragedy, love, loss and redemption to an ecstatic dance party for audience and cast alike, also fueled by new DAGMAR folktronica tracks and a VJ.

Stay tuned.  More new Dagmar folktronica tracks and "EXO" previews will be making their way to the DAGMAR website soon.

Wobbler New album Rites at Dawn

The band was formed in the idyllic Norwegian countryside, not too far from the great waterfalls of Hønefoss, in the spring of 1999 with a burning desire to create or perhaps recreate some of the musical expressions of the early seventies,-specially in the use of the instruments of that time and the somewhat "strange" compostions of the progressive rock scene from 1969 - 1974. In a few months the basic ideas for the demo and the full length album "Hinterland" was created.

There was a pause from 2001 to around 2003, when they figured it was too bad to let those old songs die without any proper recordings of'em. So the demo was recorded at Lars' studio, put out on the internet and they started living their own life. After a while it kind of took off..

Wobbler ended up signing a record deal with the US-label The Laser's Edge.

By now, Lars' vintage keyboard collection was getting out of hand, and the insane recording of Hinterland was about to begin in June 2004. There wasn't allowed to use any midi what-so-ever, and only pre-1975 instruments were applied.

After eight intense months of studio work the album was ready. The hype from the demo songs had now reached it's peak, and the expectations were sky-high. In July 2005 "Hinterland" was revealed at one of their rare live performances, at the Near-fest gig (there's a nearfest-dvd with one of the songs out for sale).

Guest vocalist for Arrayan Path's upcoming album revealed

As announced last month, the new ARRAYAN PATH album ("Ira Imperium") to be released in September through Pitch Black Records, will also feature a special guest vocal appearance. Ever since the announcement, fans have been bombarding the band to reveal who it is and although this was originally planned to be announced later this month, the band decided to spill the beans now so as to please all their fans.

The guest vocalist appearing on the band's new album is none other than former Black Sabbath vocalist Tony Martin who will be sharing vocals on the album's title track along with Nicholas Leptos.

In the band's own words: "We are truly humbled to have worked with this amazing singer, one of our all-time favourites! His singing has always been (and still is) out of this world and of course this is also evident in his performance on the song 'Ira Imperium (The Damned)'. This is a great pleasure and honour for us and THANK YOU Tony!"

ProgDay 2011 Announces Germany's PANZERBALLETT!

After studying jazz guitar in Los Angeles, Graz, Helsinki and Munich, German guitarist JAN ZEHRFELD set out to create a band that combined elements of jazz and metal. The result was PANZERBALLETT, a tight-knit and chops-laden outfit that ultimately mixed electric jazz, death metal, funk, math rock and a lot of other things in-between. That's not surprising when you consider that Jan's list of musical influences includes MESHUGGAH, MATS/MORGAN, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, SCREAMING HEADLESS TORSOS and ALLAN HOLDSWORTH.

In the traditional style of jazzers interpreting well-known compositions, PANZERBALLETT makes a habit of re-working familiar music, yet in a way that re-envisions it as anything but traditional. Whether rendering original compositions or taking ownership of old favorites, the performance energy is always high, the arrangements are unexpected and eclectic, the playing is ferocious and often tongue is placed firmly in cheek.

Described as JOHN ZORN meets Meshuggah, or as the German newspaper Die Welt has said, "faster than Metallica, more powerful than Motörhead, and funnier than Rammstein," PANZERBALLETT is pushing fusion in a different direction. ProgDay is thrilled to welcome them on their first journey to the US.

PANZERBALLETT (Germany) joins QUANTUM FANTAY (Belgium) and FIBONACCI SEQUENCE (US) at this year's ProgDay, the longest running progressive rock festival in the world.  ProgDay's 17th edition will take place on Saturday, September 3, and Sunday, September 4 at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.
