The Sea Within - Roine Stolt, Daniel Gildenlöw, Jonas Reingold, Tom Brislin & Marco Minnemann join forces

The Sea Within - a new progressive rock super-group formed by Roine Stolt (Transatlantic, The Flower Kings), Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation), Jonas Reingold (The Flower Kings, Karmakanic, The Tangent), Tom Brislin (Yes Symphonic, Camel) & Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson, The Aristocrats, UK, Joe Satriani) - have announced they will release their as-yet-untitled debut album in Spring 2018 through InsideOutMusic.

Roine Stolt comments on how the band came together: "I think it all started as a suggestion from the record company - putting together a new band, starting fresh, seeing if collective writing could spawn a unique style. We also wanted to make sure that the band was a unit that could deliver as well onstage, as on album. Call it a supergroup if you want - I think we can handle that."

The band recently entered Livingston Studios in London to begin recording the basic tracks, and found an instant chemistry in the way they worked together. "Going into the studio in London was taking a great risk as we had not been in the same room together beforehand." Roine continues: "We had just sent demos around and didn't really know if we could make great music together, but we managed to track almost 2 hours of new music, a mix of collective ideas from the whole band. We also had a lot of great 'off-time', sharing laughs and stories in local pubs - that part is important."

The band are putting the finishing touches on their debut album, and of the music's direction Roine says: "There are elements of prog, but also pop, art-rock and many cinematic elements. I suppose the music comes from within our collective memories of all that we love as far as sounds, visions and poetry. We hope that discovering this band will be a journey for the open-minded prog fan - something as fresh and uncertain and unfolding as it is for us."

The band have also announced their first confirmed live date, taking to the stage at Night of the Prog Festival 2018 at Loreley, Germany on the weekend of 13-15th July 2018 alongside Camel, Big Big Train, Riverside & more. Tickets are available now here:

Drawing on their collective experience from across the rock and prog spectrum, The Sea Within sees them coming together to craft new music that sees them all leaving their respective comfort zones and challenging themselves.

PROG Magazine Premieres New Video By Chilean Prog Ensemble Aisles!

Chilean Prog ensemble Aisles, South America's most acclaimed prog band of the last 20 years, is releasing their "Live from Estudio del Sur" sessions. The first of four videos is for the song "Clouds Motion" from Aisles' debut studio album, "The Yearning." Says Aisles guitarist, Germán Vergara, "The reason why we chose to record 'Clouds Motion' is because, even though it's one of our oldest tunes, to this day it still represents all of us and it is one of the favorite songs of the audience that has followed us from the beginning of our career."

UK's PROG Magazine has premiered Aisles new video for "Clouds Motion":

Director Bernardo Quesney, renowned for his work with Chilean rock and pop artists like Gepe and Javiera Mena adds: "I had never worked with a band so meticulous in the performance of their music. Their songs are a journey, as they are not just about seeing Aisles play, but there is an actual musical conversation and a challenge between the instruments."

Aisles are currently closing the promotion cycle of "Hawaii," their most successful album to date. "Hawaii" has been highly acclaimed by Chile's most important radio station (Futuro), by South America's largest rock magazine (Rockaxis) and by international media outlets such as PROG (UK), Neoprog (France) and All About the Rock (UK). In October 2016, the band visited Europe for the second time in their career, playing shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and England. In 2017, Aisles went on their first US and Mexico tours, with appearances at Progstock (New Jersey), Progtoberfest (Chicago), and Fest Prog Jazz (Mexico City). Additionally, the band performed at the Marillion Weekend Chile and opened for Dutch prog legends Focus in Santiago.

In 2009 their second album "In Sudden Walks" was nominated for Best Foreign Record in the Italian Prog Awards and the group was invited to open the 11th Progressive Rock Festival Crescendo in France. Classic 1983 Prog Album By The Gardening Club Reissued With Bonus Tracks!

Gonzo Multimedia has reissued the debut album by the Gardening Club! Originally released in 1983, this Prog influenced record was "the right album at the wrong time." It has now been re-released with an additional five studio tracks complementing the albums original twelve tracks.

The CD package sports the original Gardening Club cover and includes a 24 page illustrated lyric booklet, created especially for this re-release by musician/artist, Martin Springett.

Says Martin, "I am thrilled that this music is finally seeing the light of day. I felt at the time that it was special, the perfect marriage of my art and music, influenced as I was by all the classic Prog music of my youth, and the wonderfully over the top and imaginative packaging. I have been in Canada for many years now, but as many listeners have told me, I have retained my 'English sound.'"

"The record sounds like the '70s; channels the aesthetic and narrative attributes of Middle Ages poetry and art; was released during the heyday of futurist pop, and is now being reimagined more than 30 years later." - Jeff Low, Broken Pencil

"Now this is that classic prog rock sound that we all love so deeply and dearly...Just a gorgeous, inimitable, eternal album, that deserves to live forever." - Julian Ryan,

Martin Springett was born in the U K but moved with his family to Canada in 1965. In 1969 in Vancouver he recorded an album of settings of Tolkien's poems from Lord Of The Rings and the Hobbit. Alas, Christopher Tolkien did not allow the record to be released. Martin played in bands and toured in Canada and the U S, but returned to England in 1971 to seek a record deal. He toured in Europe with a band called Gateway Driver, based in Hanover. Upon returning to Canada, a move to Toronto meant entering a new musical landscape and a Vancouver pal, Don Geppert, now a respected engineer in the Toronto music scene worked with Martin on an LP called The Gardening Club, which was released in 1983. Martin has continued to write create and record music in the intervening years, releasing six independent CD's.

Martin and his band mates, Norm Macpherson, producer and guitarist, and James Macpherson, drums and synths, recently completed a new Gardening Club album called The Riddle. Martin is now putting the finishing touches to the art that will accompany this record.

About the band:
Singer Ryan Hurtgen originally met Johannes Luley as a client in Luley's Los Angeles-based recording studio, My Sonic Temple. Luley, who was instantly impressed with his personality, song-crafting skills, and voice, asked Hurtgen to join him on a new project. This new group was going to continue the path Luley's former band Moth Vellum had set out on. The two became fast friends and soon put together a full band which would also include founding member Jesse Nason on keyboards. After releasing Perfect Beings (2014) and II  (2015) to critical acclaim, a few personnel changes occurred that left the band without a rhythm section. The guys decided they wouldn't be deterred, even by such a major setback. Instead, they hired Minneapolis transplant Ben Levin to play the drums on their next album, with Luley taking over the bass spot in addition to playing guitars. The result is the exhilarating double album, Vier. As the group got closer to completing the record, they approached InsideOut, whose label chief Thomas Waber had shown interest a couple of years earlier. The parties agreed to join forces and release the record in early 2018. Levin dropped out and progressive rock drumming phenom Sean Reinert joined the band to add even more life force to an already powerful and highly skilled group, which also includes Jason Lobell on bass and Dan Kaneyuki on sax and woodwinds. The band can be seen in its current lineup at ROSfest 2018, early May in Gettysburg, PA.

Perfect Beings are:
Ryan Hurtgen - vocals; piano
Johannes Luley - guitars; bass

In related Dan Swanö news, it has been recently announced that 27 years after its initial release, his rock group Unicorn are re-issuing early demo recordings as "A Collection of Worlds - Resurrection". Find more details about the project here:

Swanö will next be working on a yet unnamed death metal project, showcasing material in the vein of his compositions for Bloodbath, mixed with the early style of Edge Of Sanity and Pan-Thy-Monium. Something to look out for in 2018!

Billion Dollar Babies, Feat. Original Alice Cooper Group Members, First Ever Live Show - Flint 1977 Now Available!

Featuring Michael Bruce, Dennis Dunaway & Neal Smith!

Alice Cooper was undoubtedly one of the major rock artists of the 1970s and 80s. However, what is less well known is that originally the man now known as "Alice" was called Vince and he was the lead singer of a band called "Alice Cooper." The band consisted of lead singer Vince Furnier, Glen Buxton (lead guitar), Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar, keyboards, main songwriter), Dennis Dunaway (bass guitar), and Neal Smith (drums). Furnier legally changed his name to Alice Cooper and has had a solo career under that name since the band became inactive in 1975. The Alice Cooper Group played their final show on April 8, 1974 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Bruce, Dunaway and Smith would go on to form the short-lived band Billion Dollar Babies, producing one album titled "Battle Axe" in 1977. While occasionally performing with one another and Glen Buxton, they would not reunite with Alice until October 23, 1999, at the second Glen Buxton Memorial Weekend for a show at CoopersTown in Phoenix (Buxton having died in 1997). This is a recording of the Billion Dollar Babies first ever live show on July 6, 1977 in Flint, Michigan, and what a show it was!

John McLaughlin is now an 8 Time Grammy Nominee - Best Improvised Jazz Solo Nomination for 2018 Grammy Awards...

Up for Best Improvised Jazz Solo for "Miles Beyond" Featured on

Live @ Ronnie Scott's Album

through DECEMBER 9 with JIMMY HERRING (Widespread Panic)

(Los Angeles, CA) November 28, 2017  --  The 60th Annual Grammy® Awards have just been released and Abstract Logix, home to genre bending composers and creators, are honored to announce that the Guitar Pioneer, JOHN MCLAUGHLIN, has been nominated for the BEST IMPROVISED JAZZ SOLO for the live track "Miles Beyond" from his album Live at Ronnie Scott's.  The disc serves as a souvenir from a sold-out, two-night stand at the beloved London venue by John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension, recorded in March of 2017.

In tribute to his nearly 50-year career, McLaughlin has set out on his final U.S. tour which began on November 1st in Buffalo, NY.  The nearly sold-out Meeting of the Spirits Tour – is currently taking McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension across the country for over 5 weeks before winding up on December 9th at a sold out  UCLA's Royce Hall in Los Angeles, CA.

The tour is in collaboration with one of McLaughlin's favorite musicians, American guitarist Jimmy Herring, who joins the Maestro with his own band, Jimmy Herring and the Invisible Whip.  Show reviews have been spectacular, raves from critics at Buffalo News, Relix, Downbeat, Chicago Sun-Times, Billboard, Guitar Player and more have overwhelmed the guitar legend. Recently the Boston Globe testified,  "Fans knew what to expect: blinding speed on the strings and often eccentric time changes. What they got was thrilling realization that McLaughlin, one of the most lauded fusion guitarists for decades, has gotten better at his craft. He's faster, more inventive, more soulful...A memorable farewell"

McLaughlin recently revealed to Billboard Magazine one of the reasons for his surprising retirement  "You know, musicians never die. They just decompose. So I'm on my way.  God bless mother; I inherited music from her but I also inherited arthritis, so it's creeping up on me," McLaughlin tells Billboard. "I think one of the most catastrophic things that could happen would be to go on tour and have a really bad day where I'm not really able to play. "

"You realize as you get older that tomorrow is not guaranteed for anybody," McLaughlin says. "I've been aware of this for quite a while now, so I really consider every concert to be my last one since we don't know when we're going to be taken away and sent back to that wonderful place we came from. This really is my attitude. We're just going to play and have a lot of fun, and I'm excited."

Meeting of the Spirits Tour - Remaining Dates:
Nov 30 Paramount Theatre                                                    Austin, TX
Dec 01 Riviera Maya Jazz Festival                                            Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

EYNOMIA - "Break Free"

EYNOMIA is a fantastic band from the USA and "Break free" is probably the best melodic Metal albums in 2017! The musical abilities of the band have a range from FIFTH ANGEL over SYMPHONY X to QUEENSRYCHE. The songs are even more catchy than the ones from the named bands but as powerful and finally the female vocalist Phyllis Rutter is singing on a high-end level!

Coming from Minneapolis besides Phyllis Rutter we have guitarist Chris Bickley (Christine Ohlman Band, Thunderhead), bass-legend Mike LePond (Symphony X, Mike LePond's Silent Assassins, Heathen's Rage), Jimmy Pitts (Christian Muenzer Band, Fountainhead) on the keys and drummer Gaetano Nicolosi (Ron Keel Band). If you think, in the melodic Metal genre all is said and done, you will be convinced from EYNOMIA that this is definitely not right. Listen to great songs you won't get out of your ears!

Mabel Greer's Toyshop To Release New Album The Secret Featuring Guitar Legend Peter Banks - December 8, 2017

London - Prog rock pioneers, Mabel Greer's Toyshop (for without Mabel Greer, there would be no YES), are to release a new album The Secret on December 8th.

On this album, Peter Banks (former YES & Flash guitarist) can be heard playing a guitar duo with Mabel Greer's founder, guitarist and vocalist, Clive Bayley for the first time in 50 years. Clive has written a new song around guitar parts recorded by Peter Banks, who passed away in 2013. This song is a tribute to Banks and Chris Squire who both joined the band in September 1967.

Bayley explains, "I was inspired to do this because Peter's passing in 2013 was the catalyst for meeting Bob Hagger (drummer with Mabel Greer's Toyshop) again and coming up with the crazy idea of re-forming Mabel Greer. The result is that we have produced two new albums since then, and released re-mastered BBC tapes from 1967 on the EP Images".

The Secret is an album of 9 new songs, with Max Hunt on keyboards and Hugo Barré on bass joining Bayley and Hagger. With roots back to an era when music evolved like never before and now combined with musical maturity, this album is must have for all Prog fans everywhere.

9. The Secret (ft. Peter Banks)

Clive and Bob first met in 1966 - a time when the London underground music scene was an impressive force for future development of a different kind of rock music. Clive was only 16 years old but had already been playing in a band since the age of 13. He was writing his own compositions and knew what kind of music he wanted to perform. Bob had previously been for an audition with THE SYN whose bassist was Chris Squire and guitarist Peter Banks. Not long after, both Squire and Banks joined Bob and Clive in Mabel Greer's Toyshop and the seeds of YES were planted. In early 1968, Jon Anderson also joined the group, followed by Bill Bruford, who replaced Bob and Tony Kaye joined on keyboards. When Clive left the band in August that year they changed name to "YES".
Fast forward to 2013, Clive met Bob again for the first time in 45 years! Both now in their sixties. The first thing Clive said to Bob was "let's get into the studio, see if we still have the old magic". The result became the album New Way Of Life featuring Billy Sherwood and Tony Kaye, released in 2015.

With three drummers, Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison and Jeremy Stacey, as well as the return of multi-instrumentalist Bill Rieflin on keyboards, guitarist and original founding member, Robert Fripp states that this "double quartet formation" is likely to make more noise than ever before. Rounding out the eight piece line-up are guitarist and vocalist Jakko Jakszyk, long-time bassist Tony Levin, and saxophonist and flautist Mel Collins, who was a mainstay of Crim from 1970-1972. The band's packed three-hour shows draw on material from all periods of their history, including six historic tracks that Crimson have never played live before, as well as new arrangements of Crimson classics – "the music is new whenever it was written" – and, of course, a healthy dose of new material, including the compositions for three drummers, which are a regular highlight.

Here's what the press have raved about King Crimson's summer 2017 North American tour:

"Jimi Hendrix saw them at the Marquee in 1969 and declared them to be the best band in the world. In many ways, almost half a century later, they still are." - ERIC THIESSEN, All About Jazz.

"Fripp and his band offered an impeccable performance in two stages. No melodies, no flapping, only musicians at the top of their art." - IAN BUSSIÈRES La Presse, Quebec

"The band finally reaps all that it has sown in its many transformations...the king is not dead, far from it, and they still rejoice." - REJEAN BEAUCAGE,

"Crimson has never sounded more complete, or more joyous, on stage than it does now." - JORDAN ZIVITZ, Montreal Gazette

"The uniqueness of seeing each of these seasoned musicians working is near indescribable and has to be experienced live to fully embrace their vision - think of eight master painters working in their own style, but on a common canvas, and you begin to get the idea of things." - WE HEART MUSIC, Minneapolis

"On our final evening at the festival, we were witness to the concert that inevitably proved to be its highlight...The blend of mood, melody, ambiance and atmosphere dazzled the audience, which responded with frequent standing ovations." - LEE ZIMMERMAN, Goldmine Magazine

Featuring original YES & Flash Guitar Legend Peter Banks!

London - EMPIRE FEATURING PETER BANKS & SYDNEY FOXX – THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS is the first release by The Peter Banks Musical Estate (via Cherry Red) and is also fully endorsed by Sydney Jordan (Foxx). The set includes the songs from all three EMPIRE studio albums and The Mars Tapes together in one place. The 40 page booklet features six different sets of liner notes and extensive pictures from the personal archives of band members. The audio has received a 2017 remaster.

"Thank you to Daniel Earnshaw, QEDG Management, Cherry Red Records, Carl Glover and Mike Pietrini for the remastering, design and release of this wonderful, definitive collection of 'Empire' recordings. Peter has always said that 'Empire' and the music we created was where his heart was and that it was the closest he had come to his dream of creating another band like 'YES'.  With 'Empire' we achieved 90% of what we set out to. 10% was lost to pressure from the industry and the misfortune of being in L.A. during the 'Disco Era'. But the 90% that remains in this complete collection of 'Empire' recordings is timeless, magical and yet another valuable musical testament to one of the most innovative and greatest guitar players ever, who co-created one of the greatest bands ever!" - Sydney Foxx

Peter Banks passed away in 2013 but his musical legacy will live on with a series of official definitive album releases throughout 2018 and 2019. The Peter Banks Musical Estate is represented by Daniel Earnshaw.

KHARA There Were Heroes Amongst Us

Khara are a post-rock / instrumental quartet hailing from Kumanovo, Macedonia featuring the likes of Emil Pachkovski, Milan Trajkovikj, Filip Stojkovski and Filip Mihajlovski. They started playing together in October 2014. The name of the band comes from Mongolian mythology. It tells the tale of the first shaman who could bring the dead back to life, his name was Kara. They have been inspired by the myths of Kara, as well as his life with all of its elements. From the characteristic heavy-riff guitars, through the high pitched shredding melodies accompanied by a heart-pounding bass guitar and drums, the soft and quiet instrumentals building into a climax and the ethereal live performances, they try to evoke feelings and leave their listeners to create their own stories. Love, war, hope – that's what affects these four young men to wander through the world with one goal, creating music for people to relate to. "There Were Heroes Amongst Us" is the debut album and a conceptual album, meaning that there is a theme wandering throughout it. The album tells the tales of the forgotten heroes, the people who achieved extraordinary things with nothing but their courage. People who should not have been forgotten, but they were. The album breeds with different types of melodies, ranging through melancholic and sad, to joyful and happy. Six songs that are crafted to represent a specific person, object or event. Their names may not mean nothing if you look at them separately, but if you add ''To all of you, soldiers'', everything starts making sense.
Fluttery Records is a home for post-rock, ambient, modern classical music since 2008.
